
Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA)
Its’ Uses:
CEA is used mainly to monitor the treatment of cancer patients. A CEA test may be ordered when symptoms suggest the possibility of cancer. In patients who have been diagnosed with certain types of cancer, a CEA level is also measured before and after therapy, to evaluate the success of treatment.
Interfering Factors:
Individuals who smoke cigarettes tend to have higher CEA levels than non-smokers.

Your GP, practitioner or ICIM medical professional may order for you to have this blood test to help formulate a diagnosis or to monitor treatment.
