What is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional Therapy is rooted in medical science yet looks at the body in a holistic way. It works on the principle that every person is biochemically unique and has different nutritional requirements. It uses food therapeutically to encourage the body to heal naturally.
As our bodies and brains are made from molecules obtained from food, water and air, everything we eat has an effect on our wellbeing. If our body does not get the nutrition it needs, our health can suffer and illness ensues.
Although many people think they eat a balanced diet, how our food is digested and absorbed, increased intake of junk food, a decrease of nutrients in the soil, chemical farming methods, global pollution and high stress lifestyles are all thought to contribute to nutritional deficiencies. This is becoming increasingly widespread in Western populations.
Symptoms of illness and disease are often multi factorial. Healthy eating is increasingly gaining recognition as a firm anchor in determining our energy levels, longevity and state of mind and body.
What conditions can Nutritional Therapy help?
Nutritional Therapy is suitable for everyone and is helpful for many chronic conditions including:
- Digestive disorders (Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, IBS, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, gastric reflux etc)
- Skin conditions (acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea)
- Metabolic syndrome (weight gain/obesity, raised cholesterol, insulin resistance and high blood pressure)
- Hormonal imbalances (premenstrual syndrome, PCOS, infertility, endometriosis, menopause)
- Food allergies/sensitivities
- Respiratory disorders

- and more . . . . .
What to expect during a consultation
The initial consultation takes approx 1 hour where a thorough investigation of the clients medical history, current diet and lifestyle is taken and evaluated. Treatment involves an individualised dietary and lifestyle programme, using foods and specific nutrients appropriate to help the client achieve their optimal health, energy levels and feeling of well-being. Diagnostic tests to determine levels of nutrients, digestive function, hormones or possible food allergies may also be used.
